Colin VanBergen
M.Sc. Aud, RAUD

Registered Audiologist & Owner

Colin graduated from Trinity Western University in 1996 with a Bachelors of Arts degree and from UBC in 2000 with his Masters of Science degree in Audiology. Upon graduating he and his wife, Lisa, moved to the Kelowna area where he has been working as an audiologist.

After working as an area manager for a national hearing company for the majority of his career, Colin decided to use his experience and expertise and open up his own hearing clinic with NexGen Hearing in 2013. Colin has always strived to offer his patients the best care possible and has offered not only traditional hearing solutions but non-traditional hearing devices as well. As a result Colin has been the only audiologist in the Okanagan Valley to fit patients with specialized bone anchored hearing aids (BAHA), as well as the first audiologist in the valley to be trained in the Lyric hearing aid.

Lisa Gunn
Audiometric Technician

Lisa has been involved in the hearing industry since 2003 when she came onboard as an audiometric technician under the ownership of Marke Hambley. She is excited to once again be working with him, as her greatest honor was in receiving the “Marke Hambley” award in 2010 for her exceptional contribution in the hearing industry both internally and externally.

Armstrong NexGen Hearing

NexGen Hearing: Armstrong

Armstrong is located amidst the dairy and farmlands of the Spallumcheen Valley, a name derived from a Shuswap language word with multiple meanings: "beautiful valley", "flat meadow", "meeting of the waters" and "prairie-banked river". I love the historic town center with heritage buildings, shady streets and huge fair grounds. Armstrong gives lots of options for shopping or just taking in the country vibes. Our clinics strives to give the best and most compassionate service they are able to provide. I love connecting with all of my clients and giving them honest and ethical service. I pride myself on being a great listener, finding out what their hearing needs are and providing for their hearing health.

Armstrong celebrated 100 yrs in 2013. We are privileged to have the Interior Provincial Exhibition (fondly known as the IPE) every year in late summer. People from all over Canada and the US join us for this event. We even have cowboys from as far away as Australia enter the Rodeo competition. We have a weekly farmers market with locals providing many wonderful goodies here including produce and home baked goodies. Established in 1973, our market is the oldest continuously running market in BC. We hope to see you there!

Brietana Finch
RHIP/ Manager for Armstrong

Brietana Finch has worked as a customer care representative in a hearing clinic for the past 4 years. She graduated from Grant MacEwan University as a Hearing Instrument Practitioner in May 2014.

Based out of the Armstrong office as a manager and consultant, Brietana enjoys working with the supportive people of this community. Brietana loves working with the public and has a passion for helping individuals. She has lived in the Okanagan her entire life and looks forward to serving the community she has grown to know and love.

Lynda Nickoli
Customer Care Representative

Customer service and helping others has been at the center of my job history. From volunteering as a summer camp counselor in my teens, serving customers at a Drug Store, doing a customer follow-up program at a car dealership in my twenties, having my own Interior Design/Finishing Trades business in my thirties, to being the Welcome Wagon Rep., for Armstrong in 2012-13, I love having satisfied clients and delivering high quality service. My customers became my friends. I believe that the customer is the heart of the business and without the customer, the business dies. An unhealthy relationship with the customer results in an unhealthy business. So the heart must be treated with respect, care and concern. I love working for NexGen Hearing because of their strong core values and exceptional customer service. They have a passion for treating people with integrity. Working with Brenda is a joy and I enjoy the teamwork that we have. I grew up in Armstrong, got married and moved away for 25 years. In 2012 I moved back. I was looking for a job I can invest myself into. I am excited about working at NexGen Hearing and serving my home town.

Kelowna NexGen Hearing

NexGen Hearing: Kelowna

The Kelowna NexGen Hearing clinic provides general audiology services such as diagnostic hearing tests, tinnitus assessments, and hearing aid fittings, amongst other services. We also provide specialized hearing aids which are not available at most hearing clinics such as bone anchored hearing aids BAHA) and Lyric hearing aids. Colin VanBergen works closely with local ear, nose and throat physicians when traditional hearing aids are no longer appropriate or beneficial.

We believe strongly in not only meeting our patients’ expectations but in exceeding their expectations. NexGen Hearing in Kelowna is one of the few clinics in the Okanagan to employ an Audiometric Technician. Our Audiometric Technician, Lisa Gunn, is well recognized in the industry as being exceptional in what she does – from troubleshooting problem hearing aids, to installing assistive listening devices in peoples’ homes, to providing monthly hearing aid servicing at most area retirement homes. Lisa is truly a special person and cares deeply about helping each patient any way she can. The care and time spent with others is truly appreciated by all she serves which is evident by the frequent thank you cards, gifts of flowers, as well as cakes given to her from appreciative patients.

We do not believe that good hearing is an option available only to those who have the financial means to afford them. Because of this we have a hearing aid donation program whereby hearing impaired patients who do not have the financial means to afford hearing aids will be provided with appropriate hearing aids at no cost to them at all. We sincerely want to help those with hearing needs in any way possible.

The Kelowna clinic of NexGen Hearing is located in the heart of the city and services people from all corners of Kelowna – from the Mission, to Rutland, to Glenmore and out to Lake Country.  Colin and Lisa have been serving the needs of the hearing impaired population in Kelowna for 24 combined years and have grown close to many of their patients.  Over the years they have served many interesting local figures who have helped shape Kelowna into what it is today including pioneering families, politicians, land developers, and business people.  In some cases they have served three generations of the same family. They are proud to call Kelowna their home and to contribute to the local people who are in need of better hearing.

Tom Millar
Registered Hearing
Instrument Practitioner

With twenty years in the health care product industry, Tom has amassed a wealth of practical experience and knowledge that has been instrumental in skillfully caring for his clients’ hearing care needs. You will often hear Tom referring to your experiences with adapting to your eyewear, as his history in the field of optics is where he honed his skills in patient counselling early in his career.

Growing up in a small BC Interior town, in a family where hearing loss was prevalent, he developed a compassion early on for the hearing impaired. This naturally led to a career path to become a hearing practitioner and eventually a clinic owner where he continues to fulfil his passion of helping find solutions for those suffering with many different types of hearing loss.

In recent years developing his career skills, Tom has added specialty hearing certifications to his resume. As a self proclaimed “life long learner”, Tom is always striving to find the right solution for his growing list of satisfied clients.

In 2007, Tom and his wife, Allison moved from Victoria to Kelowna where they now raise their two young boys. In the winter months you will often find Tom on the slopes of Big White Ski Hill volunteering as a ski patroller/medic, or skiing with his family. This summer, Tom has revived his youthful enthusiasm for slow-pitch baseball on the diamond, playing with a colleague on a NexGen Hearing sponsored team.

If you have been a client of Mr. Millar’s in the past, he invites you to drop by and reconnect, and warmly welcomes all future clients who are seeking answers to their hearing needs
