I graduated from the University of Manitoba. Upon graduating, I worked as a Nutrition Educator for Health and Welfare Canada, based out of Winnipeg. Being an outdoor enthusiast and having a passion for skiing drew me west to the Rockies where I settled in Calgary.
I studied to become a sub broker and sold shares for four years before moving to Vancouver, B.C. On the coast I enjoyed a lengthy career as a pharmaceutical drug representative with Astra ( Zeneca) Pharmaceuticals and called on general practitioners, respirologists, and cardiologists throughout the lower mainland, Vancouver Island and the Okanagan.
It was through a friend and colleague that I was introduced to the Hearing Industry. I was intrigued by the effect digital technology in the hearing industry was having on people. This, as well as the growth and diversity of the industry motivated me to change careers later in life. After careful consideration, I decided to take advantage of an opportunity to complete my training with the International Hearing Society. I completed my training and certification in order to become board certified by the College of Speech and Hearing Professionals of B.C. This worked well for me, as a single parent with a young son in school. Becoming a Hearing Practitioner seemed like a good fit for me. My background in teaching and in the medical field has helped me to develop skills that transfer easily to the hearing industry.
Clients need to be counseled and taught skills to help them to become comfortable with new technology and to adapt to it and appreciate it, versus being intimidated and confused by it. Building a relationship based on trust and developing rapport and ongoing support with my clients has been rewarding on many levels. Working in a growing, evolving industry keeps you on your toes. Monotony is never an issue. I am proud to be a Registered Hearing Instrument Practitioner. I’ve been working here in the Fraser Valley for almost seven years. My son Dane is finishing his undergrad degree at the University of the Fraser Valley. We live in Chilliwack, B.C. and enjoy the surrounding beauty of the outdoors and the lakes and hiking trails. In my leisure time I like to ski, golf and also tour with a local motorcycle group. I look forward to meeting and working with my clients in Abbotsford and surrounding area with NexGen.
