Glen Bye Co-Owner &
Industrial Audiometric Technician
It is estimated that over 22 million workers are exposed to hazardous noise levels at work and according to the CDC, “Reported cases of hearing loss accounted for 14% of occupational illness in 2007.” When we think of workplace noise levels, the first places that come to mind are factories, construction, and mining where one expects that the area would be loud. But there are other, less common work situations where you also are at risk for hearing loss.
Through his extensive work experience in the hearing industry, as an IAT on Vancouver Island, Glen has conducted thousands of hearing tests on employees who have been exposed to occupational noise. Glen is passionate about educating workers and employers on hearing health and safety while providing exceptional customer service.
Sarah Simmons, IAT/Owner
Industrial Audiometric Manager
Sarah is known as a professional with a sense of humour when teaching work crews how to protect their hearing. Qualified as an Industrial Audiometric Technician (IAT) at BCIT, Sarah is responsible for driving one of two NexGen Hearing mobile hearing vans up and down Vancouver Island. She has conducted over 10,000+ WorkSafe hearing tests in the first 5 years of business. Meeting thousands of people each year is one of the fun aspects Sarah likes about her career. From testing excavation truck drivers at 6am in Victoria, to being a guest speaker at VICA Women in Construction meetings, to giving random hearing tests to the general public in parking lots, Sarah is “deaf”initely known as the “hearing lady.” Each year the NexGen Industrial division continues to grow as Vancouver Island’s favourite owner operated mobile hearing company.
