How long will it take to adjust to a new hearing aid?

The adjustment period for a new hearing aid can vary from person to person. Most people become fully adjusted to their hearing aid within two to three weeks, but some people can take up to four months to become completely comfortable with their hearing aid. It’s important to remain patient while you get used to your hearing aid, but if you suspect that your hearing aid is not calibrated properly or it isn’t working for you, come back to see us and we’ll help you adjust your hearing aid or set you up with one that will work better for your needs.

How do I know if I need a hearing aid?

Here at your local NexGen Hearing Center, we help you every step of the way in deciding if a hearing aid is best for you. We will conduct a free hearing test to determine if you currently have hearing loss. Once the hearing test has been completed, we will help you ascertain how much your hearing loss (if any) is affecting your daily life and/or activities. If you can’t hear as well as you could in the past, several aspects of your life could be impacted. Hearing loss can gradually increase without us even realizing, which lends weight to the idea of consistently having your hearing checked. What is the difference between an analog hearing aid and a digital hearing aid?

An analog hearing aid is an older type of hearing aid that makes continuous sound waves louder. Speech and noise are amplified in the same way, so an analog hearing aid can be thought of as a device that turns the volume up on everything around you. They can be programmed for different listening environments that can be switched at the push of a button on the hearing aid. More commonly found these days, a digital hearing aid will have all of the features that come in an analog device. Instead of amplifying all sound waves, a digital hearing aid will convert sound waves into digital signals, and then produce an exact duplication of the sound. The technology used in a digital hearing aid is more sophisticated and allows for more complex processing of sound. This gives them greater flexibility in programming to allow the sound they transmit to be matched to the specific type of hearing loss a patient is experiencing. Why does my hearing aid make a whistling noise?

If your hearing aid is making a whistling noise, then you are hearing feedback in your device. Sound that was supposed to go into your ear canal has escaped the ear instead and been picked up by the hearing instrument’s microphone. The sound then becomes reamplified and put out of the speaker. This can happen when the hearing aid does not fit properly. If you are experiencing a whistling noise in your hearing device, come see us at our clinic so we can have your hearing aid refitted.

Why does my hearing aid keep beeping?

If your hearing aid is making a beeping noise, it means that your battery is low and needs to be replaced. Simply change the battery in your device and the beeping noise will stop. If you have run out of hearing aid batteries, come see us at our clinic and we will be happy to get you set up with some new ones.
