RITE: Receiver In The Ear
These hearing aids are suitable for mild to severe hearing loss, with a wide range of power options available, transmitting sound to the ear via a coated wire to a receiver (speaker) in the canal. These hearing aids are equipped with directional microphones, giving them “good” to “excellent” performance rating in moderate to high background noise situations. Bluetooth commonly available.
Custom built hearing aid style suitable for moderate to severe hearing loss, only slightly larger than the CIC design.
Equipped with directional microphones, this aid is the highest performer (in the #10 battery segment) in moderate to high background noise situations. These aids use the smallest battery available. Remote control and Bluetooth connectivity options available from most manufacturers.
ITC: In The Canal
While these excellent hearing aids do have a few variations, there’s no mistaking their superior performance and sound amplification qualities. ITE or In-the-Ear hearing aids are a custom fit on the outside of the ear, while ITC (In the Canal) hearing aids are composed of a light plastic shell within the ear canal. Both ITC and ITE hearing aids are low profile, though ITC is the smaller and lower profile.
