Registered Audiologist, Tinnitus Retraining Therapist
I grew up in the Vancouver area, did my undergrad degree at UBC and then headed to Halifax for my Master’s degree in Audiology. My husband began work for the federal government, so we moved to Ottawa where we stayed for 5 years, and there I worked at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario.
I loved working with children, testing the hearing of kids of all ages, fitting hearing aids, working closely with schools and teachers for the deaf and hard of hearing. From Ottawa we finally moved back out west (I liked the city but couldn’t stand the winters!) to Victoria. I worked in another hearing clinic for five years before joining the NexGen team. I live near the clinic and there is no greater place to live and work! When I’m not working, I am busy trying to keep my two young kids and husband in line. I enjoy hiking at any one of our many beautiful parks or beaches, playing with my kids, and the rare occasion where I can relax and read a book. I became interested in hearing as many of my family members have significant hearing loss, and saw those who did not address the loss became isolated and unable to participate in family gatherings and conversation. As for tinnitus counselling, I decided to further my education in this area after seeing many depressed tinnitus clients who felt like there was nothing that could be done to help them. In fact, there is much that can be done to help, though these patients are often told otherwise. It is very gratifying to be able to help improve tinnitus sufferers’ quality of life.
Diane has worked in the hearing healthcare industry since 2012 and has been with NexGen at our Royal Oak location since Oct. 2015. Diane worked with Robbyn Brodie at another hearing clinic and is very excited to be once again working with Robbyn, and the NexGen team.
To further her knowledge and support in the hearing healthcare field Diane completed her certificate from the Distance Learning for Professionals in Hearing Health Sciences, International Hearing Society in 2015. When not in the office Diane can be found on walks with her Shetland Sheepdog or with a good book snuggled with her two cats.
