LOOKING TO IMPROVE YOUR HEARING?

It Starts with a Hearing Test and Consultation Session

If you are concerned about your hearing, including hearing loss or hearing degradation, the clinicians at NexGen Hearing are here to help. The first step is to book a free, no-obligation hearing check and hearing aid consultation at a conveniently located NexGen Hearing clinic in BC nearest you. One of our BC provincially Registered Audiologists or Registered Hearing Instrument Practitioners (RHIP) will meet with you, provide a professional hearing test and assessment, then discuss your hearing needs, goals and options with you. Should you be a candidate for hearing aids, a NexGen hearing specialist will advise you on the hearing aid device(s) most suitable for your level of hearing loss as well as for your hearing goals.

We don’t offer cookie-cutter advice for hearing aids at NexGen Hearing clinics. In some cases, your hearing may be within acceptable levels and we’ll advise to monitor and return at some point in the future. In other cases, we’ll continue the process by recommending hearing aid(s) and completing your hearing aid purchase. But it doesn’t stop there – read on to find out more.

YOUR FIRST FITTING APPOINTMENT

What To Expect At your Hearing Aid Consultation and Fitting

If you’re currently researching for your first hearing aid, you might not know what to expect for your first consultation or hearing aid fitting appointment. Each hearing aid specialist might do things slightly differently, however, you can expect overall to go through the following process:

  • The hearing aid consultation will be the first step during this process. During your consultation, you can expect to go through your history of hearing loss, lifestyle habits, and you will likely participate in a hearing test as well. This will help determine what type of hearing aid will work best for you.
  • The hearing test will be a series of sounds played by your clinician at different volume levels to see where your hearing level is at.
  • A device will be ordered based on your hearing ability, lifestyle, and budget. Once you’ve decided on a device that works for you, it will be ordered and a fitting appointment will be scheduled.
  • During your fitting appointment, you will be able to wear the hearing aid to make sure it fits snugly in your ear and that things work properly. This is where you will be able to play around with different sound levels to find what works best for you. During this same appointment, you can expect the hearing specialist to go over how to use your hearing aid in day-to-day life. This can include how to put them in, how to remove them, and care tips.

Our audiologists and hearing instrument practitioners consider a number of factors before recommending a hearing aid. It all starts with the results of the hearing test. This will tell us the type and severity of hearing loss a patient is experiencing. Then, they take time to get to know the patient. They will ask for details regarding the patient’s lifestyle, the types of noise they are exposed to, and situations where their impaired hearing is causing issues for them. Using the information they are given, and the results of the hearing test, our clinic staff will be able to present multiple options for a hearing aid that will work for the type and severity of hearing loss, as well as fit the lifestyle of the patient.
